Having prepared visioning studies in and around Houghton Regis for Central Bedfordshire Council in 2017-18, we were appointed by the town council in 2023 to prepare an Action Plan for the town centre.
As one of the UK's fastest growing towns, committed growth will see Houghton’s population double by 2032 and the Action Plan provides a framework for the expansion of the town centre offer to cater for this.
The Plan was prepared through close association with a Steering Group of local stakeholders and involved a detailed investigation of existing conditions.
The findings of this were particularly interesting - not only for informing the Action Plan but also, identifying characteristics of a sustainable settlement with a strong sense of place and identity. Further details can be found in this article for Planning and Building Control Today.
After completing the Action Plan, we were engaged to assist the town council in preparing their 2024-2028 Corporate Plan, which provides an integrated strategy for strategic development at a particularly dynamic and exciting time for the community.
