Placemake were appointed to provide specialist urban design input to support the preparation of a Regional Zoning Strategy for a 35km2 area around the Ravi River as it passes through the historic city of Lahore and around the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Old Town.
The programme has been initiated by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to guide the expansion of the city in a sustainable manner while preserving heritage assets and natural habitats. We have been working alongside a multidisciplinary team formed by the Meinhardt Group who have local offices in Lahore and Islamabad.
A Stage 1 report was submitted to the LDA, the Office of the Prime Minister, UNESCO and Development Banks for review. This culminated in the establishment of a development authority for an area to the north of the Old Town and further study of particular action areas is anticipated to commence in 2023.
