Placemake was appointed to provide urban design and spatial planning input for the preparation of a major regional plan in Pakistan's Punjab province.
The study focussed on the revitalisation of a 35km2 area around a section of the Ravi River as it passes through the historic city of Lahore and alongside the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Walled City.
It was led by the local offices of multi-disciplinary consultants Meinhardt Group on behalf of the Lahore Development Authority and the Office of the Prime Minister with funding from the Asian Development Bank.
Given the cultural and environmental sensitivity of the study area, coupled with development bank funding, the study involved extensive engagement with local and international stakeholders.
It culminated in the establishment of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and involved further study of particular action areas in 2023/24.
