Place Shaping
Strategy

The historic market town of Houghton Regis in Bedfordshire currently has a population of up to 17,500 residents and approximately 8,000 homes. Owing to its strategic location between Milton Keynes and Luton/ London Luton Airport and also, within commuting distance to Central London, Cambridge and Oxford, the town has been identified as having a significant potential for growth and expansion.

If planned and managed successfully, a greater number of residents could help to regenerate the existing town centre while conversely, existing communities would benefit from new community, leisure and employment generating activities.

Working alongside The terra firma Consultancy and the Regeneration and Place Team at Central Bedfordshire Council, we have prepared a Place Shaping Study for the town and its adjoining areas.

Through adopting an overarching, strategic approach to growth, the study considers the integration of new and existing communities, movement within the town and connectivity to the wider locale, the nature and distribution of non-residential activities and also, green infrastructure to support a semi-rural sense of place.
