Integrated Master Plan for a sustainable community of up to 150 units in Ibadan, Nigeria. Occupying an attractive, south facing site of up to 10 hectares, new development has been sensitively arranged to maximise views across the river while an underlying landscape strategy integrates existing planting, provides a variety of open spaces for leisure and recreation and supports a sustainable urban drainage strategy (SUDS).
After completion of the Master Plan, Placemake were engaged to prepare six typical building typologies that would support the overarching principles of the Master Plan.
Particular design considerations included the heavy seasonal rainfall, local vernacular and materials and also, creating openings to minimise solar gain while allowing passive ventilation and views.
Site preparation commenced in 2018 and by 2022, the primary road network and a number of units have been constructed.
